Why a blog?

  • Because every day, we're working hard to understand the many ways that new parents adjust to their lives, and this is where we can share with you what we learn. That and other stuff that strikes our fancy!

Choking Safety

Chokinghazard

Here at Skip Hop, we're working on a wide range of new products for new moms and dads.  Every product we do is thoroughly test to the most rigorous standards.  As we move from products used by parents to products used by infants and toddlers, it's even more important that our products are safe.  One of the most important tests for new products is the size of the parts, to insure that there is no choking hazard.  For a new "all ages" product we are developing, we needed to insure that the small parts were safe for children under three.  If you wondered how manufacturers know whether or not a part is safe for children under three, the answer is the small objects tester.  If something can fit through the tube, it's a choking hazard for children under three.  We have them in our office for product development, but I only recently found out that you can buy them on the open market.  I think that this is a great item that every parent should have.  It's availalable here.
