On Saturday May 19th, Skip Hop participated in the Kids for Kids carnival, a major fundraising event for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. The foundation seeks to prevent pediatric HIV infection and to eradicate pediatric AIDS through research, advocacy, and prevention and treatment programs. In the Foundation’s words: “Every child deserves a lifetime.” The Foundation has spent almost two decades funding pediatric research and raising awareness about children's fight against HIV/AIDS. Thanks to this research and awareness, as well as the advent of combination antiretroviral therapy, many children born infected with HIV/AIDS now have the opportunity to grow up healthy.
The event raised over $1.2 million for the Foundation, and Skip Hop took part in a major way contributing both financially and with a great activity booth. 550 children got to decorate their own Skip Hop kids backpacks, made especially for the carnival. Throughout the day, celebrities came by Skip Hop’s Decoration Station to help out. Camryn Manheim, Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Olympic figure skater Sarah Hughes all spent time working with us at our station, and the members of the Skip Hop team generously gave their time to help make this important event a huge success. The event also featured chefs from all of NYC’s best restaurants serving up their signature food, and activity stations from companies like Kidville, Sony, The Knicks, MTV and many, many others. Kids got to paint with artists like Jeff Koons and pal around with celebs like Whoopi Goldberg. You can read more about this amazing event here. We at Skip Hop are thrilled to be able play a small role helping out such an important organization.
