Skip Hop Splash wins 2008 Businessweek/IDEA design award!!

Shsplash_white_on_black_lo

We're very excited here at Skip Hop! Our iconic Splash bottle drying rack has won a 2008 IDEA award recognizing the best in global design. It's the most prestigious product design award - sort of like the oscars of product design. Congratulations to our great team, and our design partner on this, Scott Henderson. So exciting to have one of our products grouped in with such amazing products like the iPhone and One Laptop Per Child.

You can see all the winners here: 2008 IDEA winners.

Organization at home and on the go!

We know how hard it can be to stay organized with a little one running around, so that's why we're introducing Bin-Go!

Bin-Go Large Storage Bin has room for everything - toys, books, blankets, you name it. Our soft canvas catch-all is strong and stylish: tough enough to hold tons of stuff, and chic enough to complement your playroom or nursery.

For the smaller things in life, we have the Bin-Go Tabletop Organizer. This style has a divided main compartment and four side pockets, making it the perfect storage solution. What's great is that both sizes have circle handles for easy carrying, and the entire Bin-Go folds flat to save space!

Gigantic Playspot constructed at the Time Out NY KidsFest!

Skip Hop was hard to miss on May 31st when we constructed a massive Playspot at the Time Out New York KidsFest in Madison Square Park! The colorful foam tiles covered the entire area in front of the stage where bands played and stories were told.

We were thrilled to be a part of the family fun day and break the record for largest Playspot ever (if there was such a thing)!

Skip Hop takes part in Big City Moms “Biggest Baby Shower”!

We all had a fabulous time on May 21st as one of the sponsors of the Big City Moms “Biggest Baby Shower” at the trendy Tenjune in NYC!

Expectant moms won a chance to give our “wheel of products” a spin. Lucky moms to be got to take home great Skip Hop products such as our Duo and Dash diaper bags and our nursery goods! Too add to the excitement the keynote speaker was the legendary Dr. Sears.

We loved meeting all of the enthusiastic moms-to-be (and some pretty nice dads)!

Bloggers on Start-ups

Although I don't consider myself a blogger i like to read a lot of blogs and my old friend Jason Calacanis wrote a great entry on saving money with your startup. I don't agree with all of it but a lot of if is right on.

More to my tastes was an entry from Dave Winer where he discusses the virtues of GREAT PRODUCTS. And that with great products success is more or less guaranteed.

Imho, having started two companies -- one that failed and one that succeeded, and watched dozens of others over 30 years, the difference is the ones that succeed have a hot product that lots of people want, and the ones that fail don't. I don't think whether you savor every penny makes much of a difference, in fact if you pinch them too hard your people are going to hate you, and they have to love the founder, just as the customers must and the press and even the competitors.

When I think about the people who had runaway successes that made them fortunes the ones that had great products and were admired by many were the ones that really hit it out of the park. I can't think of anyone who had a great product and failed because they didn't watch every penny.
